Our Community

Passion for food drives everything for us. Offering seasonal, fresh, local, and handmade produce is at the core of our business and nothing delights us more than when a customer loves our products and what we do.

PEOPLE

We are passionate about supporting the local community and being part of the food story in Shropshire and the surrounding counties

We want Ludlow Farm to be a great place to work and believe that employing, training and supporting talented food producers is a long-term sustainable approach.

We have a ‘buy local’ policy which means that we always look to local suppliers in Shropshire, Herefordshire, Powys and Worcestershire before extending our search further.

Supporting local organisations is something close to our hearts. Each year we choose a charity to support with fundraising efforts; for 2026 we are supporting Brain Tumour Research. We will also be supporting Hands Together Ludlow.

We are proud of our region and we want to support those who share our passion and goals.

SUSTAINABILITY

We believe in the sustainability of what we do in everything from farming practices to environmentally sound packaging solutions

Since establishing Ludlow Farmshop in 2007 we have been making steps to become more environmentally conscious and responsible as producers, retailers and farmers. We are constantly reviewing the need to balance productivity with sustainability.

Our sustainability journey continues and here are some of things we are doing to play our part –

Our farming practices are evolving to focus increasing care and attention on soil health, water quality and biodiversity. Regenerative farming techniques such as no-till, direct drilling, cover cropping, field margins and tree planting all contribute to this.

On the farm there are two hydro schemes and a solar farm which powers parts of our operation or is fed back into the grid.

All the food waste we produce is put through a biodigester; this has the capacity to deal with 1.5 tonnes per week converting all the solid food waste into water. Only 25% of the water we use goes into the drainage system, the rest goes into a reed bed system or soakaways.

Where possible, we only use packaging that is environmentally sound. This includes Natureflex for our deli products and craft style card for compostable coffee cups.

INTEGRITY

Our commitment to animal welfare and food quality

We use a variety of produce grown and reared on the surrounding farms to produce high quality food based on ultra-low food miles and absolute traceability. This was a founding principle when we established the farm shop and remains at the core of what we do.

The farm recently invested in a state-of-the-art robotic dairy unit which has brought many benefits to the dairy herd, including better health, milk yields and overall cow welfare. Fresh milk is collected daily by the farm shop and is used to make our cheese and yoghurt.

Our Walled Garden provides a selection of fresh and seasonal produce to the farm shop, Ludlow Kitchen and The Clive Arms.
